The version of the event protocol this executable speaks.
It is carried on every event and negotiated when a client connects. A change that a
client written against version 1 could not ignore safely — a renamed field, a removed
variant, a changed meaning — increments it. A new variant does not: a client is
required to ignore a payload type it does not know, which is what
EventPayload::is_terminal and the Cockpit’s own reader are written to do.
